From the Collections of the Klau Library, Hebrew Union College, Cincinnati:
Pulses on Passover
In response to the deprivations of the Napoleonic Wars, the Jewish communal authority of the Kingdom of Westphalia issued a declaration in 1810 permitting the consumption of legumes on Passover and admonishing the Kingdom's rabbis to comply with that decision and guide their congregations accordingly. This is one of the earliest and dramatic documents of what would become the Reform movement in Judaism, and Hebrew Union College's Klau Library in Cincinnati is proud finally to be able to add a rare copy into its collections. An image is available on the Library's research blog. The text is in German in Hebrew characters. Click here for a German transcription and English translation.
